What is the Lift?

The Lift, in the natural world, it's called a thermal; it is a column of rising air, invisible to the eye but everything to the bird that finds it. No engine. Just lift, and the willingness to stop fighting gravity and start using it.

The name
Why we're called Cumulus.
Look up on a clear day and the cumulus clouds tell you exactly where the lift is; each one is the visible cap of a rising thermal. Glider pilots chase them for that reason.
We took the name on purpose. A cumulus is both the proof that lift is happening and the sign of where to find it. That's the role we play: the unseen force lifting you, and the visible mark that your institution is climbing.
